Medical Training Available in Ventura

SBBCollege Ventura offers medical programs with no waiting lists and the flexibility to begin medical training shortly after applying.

As the Ventura County Star reported in a recent article, phlebotomy training programs in the County are not able to accept all who have applied to the program. Many programs hold a lottery or have a waiting list to enroll in their medical program.

According to the article, Ventura College received 36 applications for only 19 available spots in their program. The Simi Valley Adult School phlebotomy program could only accept 28 of the 50 students who wished to enroll.

SBBCollege offers medical training to the communities of Ventura, Oxnard, Port Hueneme, Santa Paula, Fillmore, Camarillo, Ojai and everywhere in between. The College offers programs related to phlebotomy, specifically medical assisting and medical office administration.

The Medical Assisting program includes training in venipunctures, or blood draws. Offered either as a job training certificate or associate's degree, students in the medical assisting program are prepared to work in a medical front and back office. As part of the program, students participate in an externship, where they actually work in the medical field and receive real-world work experience before they graduate.

For those who don't like needles or blood will be well served with a medical office program. SBBCollege offers several medical office programs from a 14-month career training program to a bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration. The College's Health Information Technology is an associate's degree program, which includes advanced billing and coding.

Students in the medical program can graduate in approximately 14-22 months.

When students approach graduation, the College’s career services team works to help each graduate with job-placement assistance.

Currently, SBBC’s medical assisting program has no waiting list, and the College’s Ventura campus is open Monday through Friday for tours and to provide information on the medical program.

If you’re looking to get into the medical field, but don’t want to worry about waiting lists or lotteries, find out how you can get started with SBBCollege in Ventura.
