Santa Maria in Southern California is the most populous city in Santa Barbara County. Located between Los Angeles and San Francisco, as well as being an outstanding center of learning, SBBCollege Santa Maria offers a great student life.
Even the hardest working students want to spend some down-time away from their studies and recharge. Our small but active campus means you’ll get to know everyone on first name terms. With so much going on, both on-campus and off, attending our college in Santa Maria provides a unique experience for our students, whether you’re full time or part-time.
As well as our fantastic facilities, there’s plenty going on all year round at SBBCollege Santa Maria. From our annual Easter Egg hunt to the numerous on-campus drives, there’s so much for you to be involved in and opportunities to make new friends.
Student support is an important part of our offering at SBBC and we aim to equip you with all the resources you need to compete in today’s competitive job market. Classes are small meaning you get the attention you need, while we offer free career planning assistance to help you explore your options after college.
Most students in their final term also get on-the-job training, going to work on externships to help you put the skills learned in the classroom into practice.
Shopping: Convenient shopping is located about 5 minutes’ walk from campus, including Santa Maria Shopping Center, Broadway Plaza Shopping Center, Stowell Shopping Center and Foods Co., which is open 24 hours.
US Post Office: The post office can be found on E Battles Rd, just 5 minutes’ walk from campus.
Public library: The public library in Santa Maria is only 1 mile from the college campus.
In-Shape: Santa Maria: In-Shape: Santa Maria is located less than 5 minutes from campus and offers excellent fitness equipment, a range of great classes Monday – Saturday and personal training.
Paul Nelson Aquatic Center: The Paul Nelson Aquatics Center is less than a mile from campus and has an Olympic-size swimming pool with reactional swimming available from April to the second week in October.
Santa Maria Fairpark: Located less than a mile from campus is Santa Maria Fairpark. As well as year-round entertainment, the park is the home of the Santa Maria Valley Strawberry Festival and the Santa Barbara County Fair, held in April and July respectively!
City Parks: Santa Maria has 27 city parks, 4 of which are located within a 1 mile radius of campus – Minami, Buena Vista, Alice Trefts and Simas. The latter also contains a bowling green, basketball court and baseball field.
Movie Theaters: Movie enthusiasts will find several movie theaters in Santa Maria. Edwards Santa Maria 10 is the closest to SBBC, just over a mile from campus.
The Hagerman Sports Complex is less than 10 minutes’ drive from the College and features a host of great facilities for groups and organizations including 4 multi-use lighted fields, portable baseball mounds and soccer goals. Facilities are available to rent all year round.
If you love bowling, Rancho Bowl & Lounge is a great place to relax with friends. As well as 32 bowling lanes you’ll find an arcade, pool table and restaurant where you can sample a famous “Santa Maria Style BBQ.”
For a great day out 7 days a week, head to Boomers! Santa Maria. There’s plenty to do for everyone and the park includes Go Karts, mini golf, a rock climbing wall and bumper boats.
Love the theater? PCPA is the perfect place for you to spend an evening! As well as showing amazing performances all year round the theatre trains the actors and technicians of the future. In fact, PCPA can boast a host of household names among their alumni including none other than the late Robin Williams.

Santa Maria Museum of Flight: Open Friday – Sunday, Santa Maria Museum of Flight features a great range of past and present-day aircraft.
Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum: The Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum is perfect if you have a young family. Exhibits include a 3,000 gallon shark tank and a planting station. The museum is open Tuesday – Sunday.
Natural History Museum: Open Wednesday – Sunday, the Natural History Museum of Santa Maria features a range of exhibits from native Californian wildlife to the ancient Jurassic.
For many of our students relaxing at the beach is the perfect getaway from their studies. Whether taking in the surf or just soaking up the sun there are some beautiful beaches nearby including Pismo Beach, a well-known surf spot.
For something a little different the Santa Maria Valley is a renowned wine region and the area is full of great wineries including some stunning smaller boutiques. If you love wine, a trip to one of the valley’s vineyards is a must!
You’ve not had a barbecue until you’ve sampled a Santa Maria-style barbecue! Once a local secret, Santa Maria is now known nation-wide as the barbecue capital of the world. As well as the many barbecue houses there are often outdoor banquets set up by the local schools and charities along Broadway.
Santa Maria is host to some fantastic golf courses, set in the beautiful backdrop of California. With three courses - Rancho Maria Golf Club, Sunset Ridge and Santa Maria Country Club – there are plenty of opportunities to ‘have a swing.’ Santa Maria Country Club also includes tennis courts and outdoor swimming pool which is open in the summer months.
Rancho Guadalupe Dunes County Park is located just 15 miles from campus and is the perfect place to get up and close with nature. As well as boasting some of the highest beach dunes in the Western United States (some over being 500 feet), it is also a great place for whale spotting, hiking or a relaxing picnic.
Located in the Solomon Hills, about 10 miles south of campus is Los Flores Ranch Park. At almost 2.8 square miles the park offers a great mix of activities including nature walks, hiking, biking and horseback riding.
Situated about 25 minutes’ drive from campus is the beautiful Oso Flaco Lake. The lake is host to a variety of wildlife and diverse landscapes including a marine beach, forest and desert dunes.
